Look Both Ways — Inaugural Collection

I’ve been here before

After 30 years of exhaling

I squish into my 8 year old bare feet

Seam-ripping the bunches of blades of grass

Dandelions between each toe

Sunshine kissing each strand of my hair

I’ve been here before

I sink into the ground

Cool moss pushing air into my lungs

I can inhale my whole body

Every speck of me begins to dance

To the sounds of my first favorite song

I had forgotten

I’ve always been here

 Look No. 1 — Resurrection

This Piece is called Resurrection, as it was the first piece I draped under Nickoline that felt right for this new world. In many ways, this gown represents a reignition of vitality in myself and in my work. There is a vulnerability in the black sheer silk and raw edges, delicately held together by two points at the shoulder and high waist.

 Look No. 2 — Re-married

This piece represents a re-commitment to self; acknowledging and accepting exactly who are, seeing and loving all the pieces lost along the way with all of the additions that have brought you more understanding. Although this silhouette had been stuck inside my head for quite sometime, this was actually the last piece I sewed the morning of the look book shoot. It felt like the perfect piece to physically complete the project and placed to follow the steps of Resurrection. Remarried is a return home after time invested in self-discovery.

Look No. 3 — Mattiel

These pieces are inspired by my dear friend and artist I deeply admire, Mattiel. The silhouette was created for a special evening in NYC as she performed with Jeff Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. These pieces to me embody an artist’s subtle shift and movement towards embracing femininity, with celebratory reveals and a soft structure that frames the body.

Look No. 4 — Kiki

This piece is for my Mother, Kecia, or Kiki for those who have ever experienced her warm and vibrant soul. My mother has taught me many things, from her i learned the importance to be gentle with myself and to embrace my intuition with confidence. The volume celebrates movement of the body claiming space and shapes create a presence of true comfort; a silhouette that feels free to be and welcoming of what life has to offer.

 Look No. 5 — Era’s End

Era’s End translates the transitional phase, acknowledging movement from one big piece of life to the next. In the past year, I’ve experienced many changes in myself and in my relationships. This piece is about accepting those changes and being grateful for time passed. The sheer brown crushed silk acknowledges the warm embrace of the earth and trusting the universe to guide each step.

Look No. 6 — Ode to Cro

Nickoline is an evolution of the first label I created at 20 years old, called Clan of Cro. This was such a precious project to me. I learned how to create a brand and business by walking through motions; trial and error, trial and triumph. This era proved to me my capability and assured my passion in creating stories through fashion. The Ode to Cro is an evolution of two of the most beloved Cro pieces, the Mina Top and Editta Trouser, including more exaggerated cuts and increased volume.

Look No. 7 — Wild Catch

This piece bares roots from a college Fashion Seminar class, where we chose an archetype to focus on throughout the course and I selected the Goddess, Artemis. I felt deeply connected to the traits she carries and still reflect on this energy, as it resonates with my journey in self-discovery and the forming of my identity. The Wild Catch is a representation of the freedom and fearlessness that comes with natures embrace.

Look No. 8 — Carry On

This piece is a reminder to pull yourself up when you feel stuck in the weeds. That even if you don’t have all the right tools in that moment, there is still a way to move forward. This top was born from frustration as I was working on another piece that was technical and challenging, so I put it aside. I started ripping up cotton, draping and gathering at threads. After 20 minutes of making, I was left with a piece I wore all summer, airy and onward.

Look No. 9 — Thirty

This collection was an ambition I had to celebrate my thirtieth year and to honor my passions. We shot this look book on my thirtieth birthday in the Catskills and it was the beginning of a life changing transition that has allowed me to feel more connected with myself and my environment than I ever have. The Thirty is a hugging embrace of the body and celebration of the soul.
